Welcome to ooolook photography. I’m Jill, and I’d like to congratulate you on your new bundle of joy! Thank you for taking an interest in booking a photography session to document and share this wonderful new time in your lives. I’d love to get to know your family.
My goal with a newborn session is to capture the tiny details of your newest family member within the first two weeks of them arriving. There is so much love that is forming between child and parent, it is truly a beautiful and magical time. I strive to show the unique dynamic of each individual family I work with.
My style is documentary and organic; I want you to be in a comfortable setting and be yourselves. Newborn sessions feature the newborn and immediate family. I use a “baby led pose” approach, meaning I don't ever put a baby in an unnatural pose. I can place newborns for portraits, however I don't "pose" in the way that many traditional newborn photographers do. A few reasons why I do this: I believe that babies shouldn’t be out of their parents arms for any extended amount of time. I think babies are beautiful just as they are; the way their bodies naturally move and curl up is perfect and doesn’t need any help. And mostly, I know what it's like to have a newborn and I don't want my photo sessions to add any further stress to your family. I use natural lighting whenever possible; I feel that it produces the most genuine look as I capture your family’s journey as authentically as possible.
Booking and Payment
Photo shoots occur on Saturdays and Sundays. I will determine available start times that provide the best natural lighting for your session. I find mornings tend to work best because baby is well rested. Most of my newborn sessions take place right in your home where you can be more relaxed and we can follow baby’s schedule. The session is very flexible to allow for whatever may happen... crying, diaper changes, feeding breaks— I too am a mother and understand! Outdoor sessions are also available if desired; they will focus more on family shots and do not include props.
I do not charge a travel fee for shoots in Los Angeles County. For shoots outside of LA, I will determine travel fees at the time of booking.
Half the cost of the photography session is due when scheduling the session and reserves your date. I will also have you sign my standard contract and model release when booking. The remaining balance is due prior to receiving any digital files from the session. Payments can be made via PayPal through my website.
You are purchasing edited and stylized digital files of your images only. I provide you with high and low resolution JPG files of the images you select from your session as a digital download. You are obtaining digital files for personal use only, and may not sell prints.
Albums or prints can be purchased separately from within your online session gallery.
If for any reason you need to cancel or reschedule the session please let me know at least 24 hours in advance. All deposits are nonrefundable. There is a rebooking fee, but I’d be happy to work with you on selecting a new date and time.
At the Session
Once the session starts, I will spend a few minutes getting to know you and your family a bit more before starting the shoot. This helps everyone, especially children and babies, feel more at ease. I will take a quick look around your home to find the best lighting and this will determine where our session will take place.
Your wardrobe should feel comfortable. Test out your outfit beforehand, and make sure it won’t lead to any tugging or pulling on while you move around during the session. Confidence is key when it comes to photo sessions, so it’s not the best time to try something completely new to you. Go for what you know, so that you’re not worried about how you look the entire session. For your baby, usually they will only be in one, maybe two, outfits depending on how they are feeling. Most of the time they are sleeping and too many outfit changes will wake or upset them. Simpler is better, a white onesie or just their diaper will work just great; seeing all their little details and body are what you’re going to love looking back on. I provide a small assortment of solly baby swaddles, decorative wraps, and small faux fur throws to choose from. If you have any special blankets they make great backdrops as well. I keep my props to a minimum and will let your baby determine what he or she is feeling up to doing. My main focus is on your beautifully new family dynamic and your interactions with each other.
Please do not stress about cleaning up your entire house. I tend to focus on only a few areas with good lighting, your bedroom and bed, living room, and possibly the nursery.
If you prefer a more family based outdoor session— it is extremely important to arrive to your session at least 10 minutes early. The sun doesn't wait, and I want the best light possible for your photos. Please avoid bringing anything more than you absolutely need during your session. I am happy to hold keys and phones or other small items to keep pockets empty in your photographs. No sunglasses; they get in the way and risk being damaged if we’re trying to store them. I understand with little ones a diaper bag or a small snack is needed, but please try to limit it to the bare necessities; I want you to be free of items so I can get the best photographs of your family. Outdoor sessions do not include props.
After Your Session
Within three weeks you will receive an email from me containing a link to a private online gallery of the photographs from your session. It will also provide the final payment information.
Depending on which session package you purchased, you will select the number of images included that you want. After receiving final payment, I will send edited and stylized high resolution (200ppi) and web-optimized (72ppi) digital JPG files of your photographs to you in a .zip file through a site called WeTransfer. They make sending large files easy.
Additional photos, albums or prints can be purchased separately from within your online gallery.
I keep my edits minimal and do minor retouching and processing of photos in Adobe's Lightroom and Photoshop programs. This includes removing minor blemishes, doing color correction and minor skin smoothing, and adjusting clarity and vibrance. You may request additional retouching on your photos for a fee based on the work required.
Below are my packages. If what I described above sounds like what you are envisioning for your newborn session, then I look forward to working with your amazing family! Feel free to email me if you have any further questions.
